Pushkar Mela: Fair of the Camels

One of the oldest cities in India; Pushkar is home to several attractions. This small town in the state of Rajasthan witnesses colourful festivals every year. This fair is celebrated around the full moon night in Kartik Purnima and it’s a seven day long camel and livestock fair which sees thousands of camels, horses, and cattle being traded. And it would’nt be too much to say that it’s the world’s largest camel fair! And also the most colourful fair in India which attracts tourist from all across the world.

1.      Hot Air Balloon Safari
Hot air ballooning at the Pushkar fair is once in a lifetime experience. It’s also the most exhilarating way to see the different colours of the fair. One can also indulge in paramotoring, quad biking and camel safari are other ways to explore the city while at the Pushkar camel fair 2018.

2.      Largest Livestock Fair in the World
Pushkar fair is mainly popular for its cattle fair. At the fair hundreds of herders gathers near the Pushkar lake along with their livestock – camels, horses, cows, goat and sheep, all decked up colourful attire for the trading.

3.      Handicrafts Bazaar
If a visitor has a nack for handicrafts, Pushkar fair surely will be a delight for them. Various stalls are set up at the fair which sell items ranging from saddle straps, swaddles and beads to strings of cowries to handcrafted jewelry to gorgeous paintings and classic leather wareto pretty puppets, there is a lot that you can take back home as a memory from the fair.

4.      Photography Contest
Apart from various other things, photography is another venture you can participate in. Every year, Rajasthan Tourism organizes ‘Frame The Fair’ and winners get a prize for it as well.

5.      Competitions
There are some ecentric competitions that you can witness such as ‘Mustache Contest’, ‘Matka Race’, ‘Camel Dance’ and a long list of other competitions that take place at the Pushkar Fair.

6.      Traditional Rajasthani Delicacy
Pushkar offers variety of  traditional cuisines that one can indulge in, especially the local cuisines like Dal Bhaati Churma.

How to reach Pushkar Fair?
Pushkar is easily reavhable from all the possible modes. It is situated in Ajmer, Rajasthan on the shores of Pushkar Lake.

1.      By Air – To reach Pushkar by air, Sanganer airport in Jaipur is the nearest airport to Pushkar. And the fair is nearly 146 km from the airport which one can take a bus or hire a cab to.

2.      By Road – Pushkar is well – connected to major highways in India and it can be easily reached by taking any regular bus from Ajmer, Indore, Jaipur, and Nagda.

By Train – Ajmer railway station is the closest railway station to Pushkar, which is located some 11 kilometers away from the town.
